THIS DAY IN SOCCER HISTORY 

September 25: 

1968-Mordechai Shpigler scores all four goals as Israel blanks the United States 4-0 at Temple Stadium in Philadelphia.

1976-Mike Dillon and Giorgio Chinaglia score as the New York Cosmos play the East Japan All-Stars to a 2-2 tie in Tokyo.

1977-Carlos Alberto and Giorgio Chinaglia score as the New York Cosmos and Mohun Began draw 2-2 in Calcutta.

 1993-Nick Stavrou scores three goals in the Dallas Sidekicks 11-6 playoff win over Monterrey LaRaza, while Roderick Scott had three assists and Tatu two assists.

2010- Chris Wondolowski scores all three goals for the San Jose Earthquakes as they defeat  Toronto FC 3-2 at BMO Field afternoon.

2012- The New York Cosmos announce they will play their first NASL season at Hofstra University. The Cosmos played at the Hempstead, N.Y. stadium in their second and third years of their existence in the original North American Soccer League in 1972 and 1973. 

2012- Summer Green records a hat trick  as the United States scores five second-half goals and records a 6-0 victory over Gambia in its second match of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup at Dalga Arena.

2008- Chris Rolfe scores twice  and Cuauhtemoc Blanco has the game-winning goal and an assist as the Chicago Fire romp past the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 at sold-out Toyota Park.

 2015- Rookie Cyle Larin breaks out of his scoring slump , netting a hat trick to lead Orlando City SC past Eastern Conference leaders the New York Red Bulls 5-2 at Red Bull Arena.

 2016- Allie Long scores two goals and Lindsey Horan adds another as the Portland Thorns FC defeat  Sky Blue FC 3-1 to capture the NWSL Shield at Yurcak Field.

2016-Jordan Morris snaps a 1-1 deadlock in the 63rd minute and nets the game-winner ten minutes later as Seattle Sounders FC delayed the LA Galaxy's march to the MLS Cup playoffs, rallying to a 4-2 win at the StubHub Center.
