September 11: 

1926-Sparta A.C. of Prague and the Brooklyn Wanderers play to a 3-3 tie in front of 10,000 spectators at Ebbets Field.

1926-George Graham scores five goals as an Ontario Selection defeats the Chicago Bricklayers 5-3 at Sparta Field in Chicago.

1968- The Kansas City Spurs and San Diego Toros  play to a 1-1 draw in their NASL semifinal at Kansas City's Municipal Stadium, while the Atlanta Chiefs and Cleveland Stokers end their semifinal at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium with the same score.

1980-The Fort Lauderdale Strikers defeat the San Diego Sockers 1-0 in front of a record crowd of 27,633 at San Diego Stadium to take a one game to none lead in the NASL semifinal series.

1992-The Sacramento Knights are admitted to the CISL under the ownership of Jim Thomas, owner of the NBA Sacramento Kings and ARCO Arena.

1999-The Arizona Thunder's Rick Soderman registers his third hat trick of the season, against Monterrey La Raza.

2001- Following terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C., U.S. Soccer cancels the remaining games in the U.S. Women's Soccer Cup.

2007-Abby Wambach and Heather O'Reilly score as the U.S. struggles to a 2-2 draw with North Korea in their opening game of the Women's World Cup in Chengdu, China.

2008- The New England Revolution score three goals in the last ten minutes of a 4-0 romp over Chivas USA at Foxboro Stadium.

 2010-FC Dallas stretches its unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 0-0 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium.

2010- Abby Wambach chips goalkeeper Hope Solo in the 88th minute to give the Washington Freedom a 1-0 win over the Atlanta Beat and fourth seed in the WPS playoffs  at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

2010- Kelley O'Hara has two goals and one assist, and WPS Golden Boot winner Marta scores her 19th goal of the season and records three assists as FC Gold Pride batter the Philadelphia Independence 4-1   at Pioneer Stadium.

2013- The Chicago Fire's Dilly Duka and Toronto FC's Robert Earnshaw score  within three minutes of each other as the teams battle  to a 1-1 draw  at BMO Field.

2016- Giovani dos Santos has two goals and two assists to lead the LA Galaxy past Orlando City SC 4-2   at the StubHub Center.

2016- Carli Lloyd scores two goals and has an assist as the Houston Dash defeated the Boston Breakers, 4-1, before a 6,107 crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium.

2016- The Portland Thorns clinch  a first-round home playoff match with a 3-2 victory over the Western New York Flash before a 21,144 sellout crowd at Providence Park.
