October 29: 

1967-Newcomer Willem Pedra, playing in his first game, scores two goals to lead the Philadelphia Ukranian Nationals to a 3-0 win over goalkeeper Joe Machnik and the Newark Sitch in an American Soccer League game.

1976-The New York Cosmos announce they have reached a 10-year agreement with the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority to play at Giants Stadium.

1979- Boris Bandov and Greg Villa score early, but Ireland comes back with three goals in a four minute span to take a 3-2 win over the United States at Dailymount Park in Dublin.

1997- The Dallas Burn wins the U.S. Open Cup, taking a 5-3 decision in penalty kicks in front of 9,776 fans at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis.

1997-The expansion Miami Fusion name former MetroStars executive Leandro Stillitano the club's first General Manager.

2005-Ned Grabavoy scores in the 67th minute to give the LA Galaxy a 1-1 tie with the San Jose Earthquakes in front of 17.824 at Spartan Stadium, advancing to the MLS West Finals.

2005-Needing to win by at least two goals, the New England Revolution got tallies from Jose Cancela, Patrick Noonan and Khano Smith for a 3-1 win over the MetroStars, to advance to the MLS Eastern Conference Championship.

2005-Joe Cannon makes 14 saves, and another in the shootout as the Colorado Rapids advance to MLS Western Conference finals over FC Dallas, as the Rapids won the first shootout in MLS history 5-4 as the clubs played to a 1-1 tie in regulation, and then traded goals in overtime.

2006-The U.S. Women's National Team opens the 2006 Peace Queen Cup with 1-1 tie against Denmark. Kristine Lilly scores in the 73rd minute to tie the match after Denmark takes the lead just 12 minutes into the game.

2006-Brad Davis and Brian Ching score second half goals to give the Houston Dynamo a 2-0 win over Chivas USA at Robertson Stadium, and a 3-2 decision in their total goals MLS Western Conference Finals.

2006-With a 1-1 tie against the New York Red Bulls, D.C. United captures the total-goals MLS Eastern Conference finals with a 2-1 aggregate score.

2007- After giving the 2014 World Cup to Brazil as the lone bidder, the FIFA executive committee unanimously votes to discontinue its rotation of awarding World Cups to a different confederation every four years.

2008- Major League Soccer names its newly designed MLS Cup Trophy after Los Angeles Galaxy owner Philip F. Anschutz.

2009-  Abby Wambach scores her 101st career goal on a header in the 34th minute as the U.S .holds on for 1-0 victory against Germany in front of a capacity crowd at Impuls Arena in Augsburg.

2009- The Houston Dynamo and Seattle Sounders FC battled to a lively, but scoreless, draw  in front of the largest crowd ever for a Major League Soccer postseason match, 35,807 at Qwest Field.

2014- Michel's penalty kick in the 83 minute gives  FC Dallas a 2-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC in  the MLS Western conference wild card match in front of 10,279 at Toyota Stadium.

2015- Ignacio Piatti and Patrice Bernier each finish  with a goal and an assist, and Didier Drogba scores for the 12th time in as many games as the Montreal Impact makes sure that Toronto FC's first visit to the MLS postseason is a short one, cruising to a 3-0 win in a knockout round match at Stade Saputo.
