THIS DAY IN SOCCER HISTORY 

October 19: 

 1981-The MISL institutes full-time referee program and hires six referees.

1990-Preki scores four goals as the St. Louis Storm defeat the Wichita Wings 10-6.

1991-David Doyle scores three goals, including the power-play game winner  in the Dallas Sidekicks season-opening 7-3 win over the Baltimore Blast.

1996-The Philadelphia KiXX debut with a 17-12 home win over the Detroit Rockers in front of 8,096. Larry Julius gets eight points, including the KiXX's first goal, 4:11 into the game.

1997-Jean Harbor scores two goals, including the game winner, and Dick McCormick adds two goals to lead the Seattle SeaDogs to the CISL Championship with a 7-1 win over the Houston Hotshots.

2002-Troy Dusosky scores a three-point goal and adds an assist as the Milwaukee Wave down  the Baltimore Blast 12-10 in overtime at the 1st Mariner Arena.

2002-Carlos Farias explodes for three goals, two assists and ten points to power the San Diego Sockers past the Kansas City Comets 14-10 at Kemper Arena.

2008- Conor Casey's 85th-minute penalty kick gives the Colorado Rapids a 2-1 win over Chivas USA   at the Home Depot Center, and sets up a season-ending showdown with Real Salt Lake for the last guaranteed playoff berth in the MLS West.

2011- DC United  and the Portland Timbers play to a 1-1 tie  at RFK Stadium. The result knocks DC United  out of the MLS playoff chase.

2013- Michel has a goal and an assist as FC Dallas give retiring coach Schellas Hyndman a 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC in his home finale  at Toyota Stadium.

2013- Yaikel Perez and Bradlee Baladez score two goals apiece while Martin Nuez and Carlos Salazar each chip  in with one and defender Ivan Guerrero dishes out four assists as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers rout  the Atlanta Silverbacks 6-2 in front of 4,091 fans at Lockhart Stadium.

2014- Clint Dempsey and Obefemi Martins score as the Seattle Sounders FC rally from two goals down for a 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center. The result keeps Seattle (19-10-4) in the lead for the MLS Supporters Shield over the Galaxy (17-6-10), who also have 61 points but trail in the standings on the total wins tiebreaker.
