October 9: 

1968-Pete Millar comes off the bench to score three goals, giving the U.S. National Team a 4-2 win over the Rochester Lancers at Aquinas Stadium.

1978-Red Star Belgrade defeats the touring New York Cosmos 6-4.

 2004-Major League Soccer's Utah expansion franchise announces its name will be Real Salt Lake.

2010- Despite twice taking the lead, the U.S. Men's National team settles for a 2-2 draw with Poland at Soldier Field.

2010-FC Dallas extends their unbeaten streak to 19 games, but needs eight saves from goalkeeper Dario Sala to hold the Colorado Rapids to a 2-2 draw at Pizza Hut Park.

2010-Chris Wondolowski scores on both sides of the halftime intermission to give the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-0 win over DC United, and a berth in the MLS playoffs  at RFK Stadium.

2013- Chris Wondolowski scores his 33rd career game-winner as the San Jose Earthquakes pull  to within a point of playoff-eligible fifth place in the MLS West with a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids at sold-out Buck Shaw Stadium.

2016- After regular season  MVP and Golden Boot winner Lynn Williams scores a dramatic 2-2 equalizer,  three players convert penalty kicks to give the Western New York Flash the NWSL Championship with a win over the Washington Spirit.
