1923-Alex Jackson scores in the second half to give host Bethlehem Steel a 2-1 win over the Brooklyn Wanderers.

1929-The Brooklyn Wanderers stun the defending U.S. Open Cup champions New York Hakoah 3-0 in their first meeting in the new Atlantic Coast Soccer League in front of 3,000 at Ebbets Field.

1967-Garry Powell, the soccer coach at Catonsville Community College joins the Baltimore Bays as an assistant coach, making them the first team in the NPSL to name an American to their coaching staff.

1975-The San Antonio Thunder say they want to sign former Manchester United star George Best.

1975-The Denver Dynamos are sold to a group headed by Jack Crocker, president of Super Valu Stores, Inc., and will move to Minnesota.

1977-An impending sale of a minority interest of the Tampa Bay Rowdies to Edward J. DeBartolo is reported. According to reports, Hugh Culverhouse, owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner are also interested in a stake in the NASL team.

1980-An agreement by a group of California businessmen to buy the Houston Hurricane and move them to Memphis falls through.

1980-Kai Haaskivi scores at 12:12 of the fourth quarter to give the Edmonton Drillers a 6-5 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

1981-Most of the San Diego Sockers' veteran players agree to take pay cuts in an effort to save the struggling NASL franchise.

1984-Ade Coker, Kaz Deyna and Steve Zungul each score hat tricks as the San Diego Sockers defeat the LA Lazers 11-3 at the San Diego Sports Arena.

1986-Tatu scores three goals to lead the Dallas Sidekicks to a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Steamers at Reunion Arena.

1991-Goals by April Heinrichs, Carin Jennings and Mia Hamm help the United States to a 3-2 win over Sweden in their first game of the 1991 Women's World Championship.

1992-Jeff Agoos and Chico Borja score two goals each as the U.S. defeats Russia 8-3 in their opening match of the FIFA World Indoor Championship in Hong Kong.

2000- Jayson Dunn registers his third cycle of the season (1-1-1-1-7) to lead the Wichita Wings over the Kansas City Attack 23-6.

2002-Ben Olsen and Sasha Victorine score as the United States defeats El Salvador 2-0 at RFK Stadium.

2002-Marcia McDermott steps down as coach of the Carolina Courage.

2004- The United States holds Jamaica to a 1-1 tie in a CONCACAF Group 1 qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, eliminating them from World Cup.

2010- F.C. New York announces it will join USL PRO for the 2011 season and play its home games at The Soccer Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University.

2010- Sporting Kansas City is unveiled as the new identity of Kansas City's Major League Soccer team.

2015- The United States and  Trinidad & Tobago  settle for a scoreless draw  in a CONCACAF Group C match at Hasely Crawford Stadium.

2016- The LA Galaxy announce forward Robbie Keane, who recorded 92 goals (26 game-winners) and 51 assists (18 game-winners) in six seasons will depart the club.
