November 7:

1966-The English Football League says it is trying persuade English clubs to play in the new North American Soccer League as guest teams for its 1967 season.

1968-American Soccer League president Charlie Schiano says he expects at least six new teams to join the league, most of them from the North American Soccer League.

1978-Giants Stadium is awarded hosting of the 1979 Soccer Bowl, the second straight year the New Jersey Stadium will host the NASL Championship Game.

1978-Giorgio Chinaglia scores as the New York Cosmos play Cordoba Belgrano to a 1-1 tie in Argentina.

1979-The Canadian Soccer League announces it will begin operating in 1980 with between eight and 10 clubs.

1982-Giorgio Chinaglia scores two goals and Vladislav Bogicevic one, as the New York Cosmos defeat the Japanese National Team 3-1 in Kobe.

1983-Eddie Firmani, who led the New York Cosmos to NASL championships in 1977 and 1978, and is again named the team's head coach, replacing Prof. Julio Mazzei.

1983-The Tampa Bay Rowdies reveal they are considering using the Milwaukee Arena for some of the team's indoor games.

1998-Mark Thomas' two-pointer with eight seconds left gives the Florida Thundercats their first win, 16-15  over the Harrisburg Heat at the Farm Show Arena.

1998-Dennis Brose has three goals and two assists to lead the Detroit Rockers past St. Louis 12-9 in front of 10,624 fans at Cobo Arena.

2001-The Bay Area Cyber Rays change their name to the San Jose Cyber Rays.

2009- Unanswered goals from John Thorrington and Cuauhtemoc Blanco give the Chicago Fire not only a 2-0 win over the New England Revolution in their two game total goals series,  but home-field advantage over Real Salt Lake the Eastern Conference Final.

2010-  David Beckham sets up two goals in the first 27 minutes as the LA Galaxy post  a 2-1 win at the Home Depot Center to take their total-goals series over Seattle Sounders  FC 3-1.

2011- After being eliminated from the 2011 MLS playoffs in the conference semifinals the Colorado Rapids announce they will not renew the contract of Head Coach Gary Smith, who led  the club to an improbable MLS Cup Championship in 2010.

 2012- The fifth-seeded Houston Dynamo lose the battle but win the war as they fall 1-0 to Supporters Shield runners-up Sporting Kansas City in the second leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal, but advance to the conference championship by a 2-1 aggregate score.

2012- Four days after Hurricane Sandy forces the first leg of the MLS Eastern Conference semifinal series between second-seeded DC United and the third-place New York Red Bulls to be moved from Red Bull Arena to RFK Stadium, the return match is postponed due to heavy, wet snow that falls faster than it can be removed.

2012- Robbie Keane scores two goals and Landon Donovan has two assists as the LA Galaxy oust the top-seeded San Jose Earthquakes from the MLS Cup playoffs with a 3-1 win at Buck Shaw Stadium and a 3-2 aggregate-goals triumph in their Western Conference semifinal series.

2015- Raul scores the game winner, as for the second time in three years, the New York Cosmos  secure a berth in the NASL final with a 2-1 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at MCU Park.

 2015-  The W-League announces it will fold, and not stage a 2016 season.
