1974-Boston's expansion team in the North American Soccer League announces its name will be the Minutemen.

1975-Fred Grgurev scores two goals to help the New York Cosmos to a 6-4 win over the still nameless Hartford team at the War Memorial in Rochester.

1979-Fred Grgurev scores three goals, including two in the last four minutes, to lead the Philadelphia Fever to a 4-2 come-from behind win over the Cleveland Force at The Spectrum.

1980-The New York Cosmos sign Hennes Weisweiler to a three-year contract as coach.

1980-Steve Zungul scores four goals, becoming the first player in MISL history to reach the 50-goal plateau, as the New York Arrows defeat the Buffalo Stallions 9-2 at the Nassau Coliseum.

1986- Steve Zungul is sold by the San Diego Sockers to the Tacoma Stars.

1996-St. Louis University's Brian McBride is the first player taken, by the Columbus Crew, in the first ever MLS Draft.

2000-In April Heinrich's first game as head coach, the U.S. Women's National Team falls to Norway 3-2 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

2001- Goalkeeper Otto Orf makes 25 saves on 28 shots as the Cleveland Crunch down  the Buffalo Blizzard 12-6.

2005- The Long Island Rough Riders say they are looking to build a soccer stadium through a joint public and private venture.

2008- Two goals by Gonzalo Higuain help  Argentina rout Guatemala 5-0 at the LA Memorial Coliseum in the first-ever meeting between the two countries.

2008- Jozy Altidore scores a goal in his first start for the United States and defender Oguchi Onyewu added a rare score, but those markers aren't enough to win for the U.S. in a 2-2 tie against Mexico at Reliant Stadium.

2013- Striker Jerry Bengtson scores in the 79th minute to boost Honduras to a 2-1 victory over the United States in the opening round of the CONCACAF hexagonal in World Cup  qualifying.

2016-  Jozy Altidore scores to give the U.S. Men's National Team a 1-0 win over Canada in a friendly at the StubHub Center.
