1925-Sam Davidson, the secretary of the Dominion Football Association, reveals a new league is being formed and will operate with teams in Fall River, Mass., Boston, Providence, Brooklyn, two teams in Montreal, a team from New York, Toronto Ulster and Toronto Scottish and Philadelphia, with kickoff slated for May.
1927-The United States Soccer Foot Ball Association lays out plans for entering a team in the 1928 Summer Olympics.
1975-Major Soccer League President Rick Ragone says five cities have committed to play in his indoor league: Miami, Washington, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia.
1975-The North American Soccer League names former Philadelphia Atoms General Manager Bob Ehlinger as the league's first Deputy Commissioner.
1982-Peter Pocklington, former owner of the Edmonton Drillers sues Sonny Van Arnem owner of the ASL's Detroit Express, over a failed deal to sell and move the NASL team to the Motor City.
1984-Juli Veee scores three goals to lead the Las Vegas Americans to a 4-2 win over the New York Cosmos at the Meadowlands Arena.
1987-Erik Rasmussen scores three goals and adds an assist as the Wichita Wings break a three-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over the Dallas Sidekicks at Kansas Arena.
1993- A crowd of 52,397 at Stanford Stadium watches Germany defeat the United States 3-0.
1998-Detroit Rockers player-coach Pato Margetic gets his 500th NPSL career assist in a 25-16 loss to the St. Louis Ambush at the Kiel Center.
2013- Former Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas is named head coach of the Montreal Impact.
2013- Real Salt Lake names Jeff Cassar as head coach, taking over for Jason Kreis who accepted the position as coach of New York City FC.
2014- Led by four goals from Christen Press and a Carli Lloyd hat-trick, the USA defeats Argentina 7-0 in its third group match of the 2014 International Tournament of Brasilia at Mane Garrincha Stadium before just 750 fans.
