1966-Former Red Star Belgrade player Ivan Toplak is named head coach of the National Professional Soccer League's San Francisco team.

1980-Chico Hamilton scores three goals in the Minnesota Kicks 7-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Metropolitan Center.

1980-Television announcer Mario Machado is named commissioner of the American Soccer League.

1982-Steve Zungul scores three goals, including the overtime game winner to lead the New York Arrows to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Sting, in front of 12,723 at Chicago Stadium.

1984-Toronto Blizzard President Clive Toye is unanimously elected President of the North American Soccer League, taking over as head of the league from Howard Samuels, who died in October.

1987-Preki has two goals and an assist, scoring the game winner at 4:30 of overtime, and Steve Zungul nets a hat trick as the Tacoma Stars beat the Cleveland Force 7-6 at the Tacoma Dome.

1995-In the World Cup 98 qualifying draw held in Paris, the United States gets a bye in the first round of qualifying, but is placed in a second round group with Costa Rica and either Guatemala or Nicaragua and a Caribbean team to be determined.

1995-Former Toronto Blizzard coach Bobby Houghton, who also coached in England, Sweden and Saudi Arabia, is named coach of the Colorado Rapids.

2008- Graham Zusi scores in the 105th minute in the second extratime as the University of Maryland eliminates St. John's from the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in six years with a 1-0 win at Pizza Hut Park.

2012-Abby Wambach scores two goals and Heather O'Reilly dishes out three assists as the U.S. Women's National team posts a 4-0 win over China PR in front of 15,643 fans at BBVA Compass Stadium in the ninth match of the 2012 Fan Tribute Tour.

2012- Chivas USA names Jose Luis Sanchez Sola as the eighth head coach in the team's eight-year history. 

2013-The National Women's Soccer League awards its first expansion franchise to Houston. The Houston Dash, owned by Major League Soccer's Dynamo, will be the ninth NWSL team and will begin play in 2014.

2013-The U.S. Soccer Federation gives Men's National Team Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann a four-year contract extension through 2018.
