1922-Visiting Princeton comes back to hand Penn its first defeat of the season, 2-1, tying the race for the intercollegiate championship.

1933-Before being carried off with a late injury, Billy Adair scores two goals to lead the Brooklyn Wanderers to a 3-1 win over the Boston Wonder Workers at Ebbets Field.

1974-Soviet side Ararat defeats the ASL's Rhode Island Oceaneers 10-9 in an indoor game at the Providence Civic Center.

1976-The Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce says it is trying to assemble an investor group to obtain an American Soccer League franchise for the city.

1979-The Tampa Bay Rowdies give head coach Gordon Jago a new four-year contract.

1979-Matt Molloy scores three goals, as SIU Edwardsville captures the NCAA championship with a 3-2 win over Clemson at Tampa Stadium.

1981-The Los Angeles Aztecs announce they are ceasing operations, the seventh NASL team to fold since the end of the season.

1981-Jan Goossens scores five goals as the Edmonton Drillers defeat the San Jose Earthquakes 12-5 at the Edmonton Coliseum.

1983-Gordon Hill scores six goals in the Kansas City Comets' 8-7 win over the St. Louis Steamers at Kemper Arena.

1990-Paul Dougherty scores at 11:37 of overtime to give the San Diego Sockers a 5-4 win over the Dallas Sidekicks.

1995-The Baltimore Spirit's Franklin McIntosh becomes the first NPSL player to score 900 regular-season career points with a three-point goal at 4:22 of the third quarter of a 14-6 home win over the Cincinnati Silverbacks.

1999-The United States is drawn into a group with Czechoslovakia, Italy and Austria for the 1990 World Cup.

2001-The United States falls to South Korea 1-0 in Seogwipo.

2005-The United States is placed in Group E, along with European powerhouses Italy and the Czech Republic as well as Ghana, for the 2006 World Cup.

2007-Brian Farber and Enrique Tovar score two goals apiece as the California Cougars defeat  Monterrey La Raza 14-6 in an MISL game at the Stockton Arena.

2007-The New Jersey Ironmen drop their second match of the season -- both to the Milwaukee Wave -- as they go down to a 17-4 defeat in Major Indoor Soccer League action before a crowd of 4,239 at Prudential Center.

2007- Marihelen Tomer and Janessa Currier score to give USC its first NCAA championship with a 2-0 win over Santa Clara in College Station, Texas.

2009-After two days of meetings with local officials, Major League Soccer says it is considering Montreal as its next expansion candidate.

2013-One month after leading the Atlanta Silverbacks to the Soccer Bowl, the club announces Brian Haynes will not return as coach of the North American Soccer League team.

2016-MLS Commissioner Don Garber says the league will not consider adding a third team in the New York market if the New York Cosmos are saved.
