1921-Todd Shipyards signs star forward Harry Ratican to a contract for the reminder of the ASL season.

1928-Billy Adair scores two goals as the visiting Brooklyn Wanderers down the Boston Wonder Workers 3-1.

1967-The Dallas Tornado lose the second straight game to Burma's Aung San, falling 3-1 in Rangoon.

1974-Ararat defeats Jalisco 2-1 on a late disputed goal by Levon Ishojan in front of 9,819 at the LA Coliseum.

1978-The Philadelphia Fury sell forward Peter Osgood to Chelsea.

1980-The North American Soccer League gives the Rochester Lancers one week to meet all its obligations in order to remain in the league.

1981-The NASL says it is considering Milwaukee as a possible location to move one of the league's struggling franchises.

1981-The Tampa Bay Rowdies acquire Antonio Carlos Pecorari, better known as Tatu, on loan from Sao Paolo.

1984-After surrendering five goals to fall 7-4 to the Cleveland Force at the Meadowlands Arena, the New York Cosmos fire coach Eddie Firmani.

1985-Preki scores twice as the Tacoma Stars edge the Cleveland Force 5-4 at the Richfield Coliseum.

1989-The Western Soccer League's California Emperors name former Brazil  and New York Cosmos defender Rildo Menezes as head coach.

1990-Billy Ronson registers a hat trick in the Baltimore Blast's 7-3 win over the Cleveland Crunch at the Baltimore Arena.

1990-Tatu scores three goals -- his fourth hat trick of the season -- as the Dallas Sidekicks beat the Tacoma Stars 7-5.

1990- Kirill Rybakov and Igor Shueinov each scores two goals and American Dale Mulholland scores one as Lokomotiv Moscow defeats the Miami Freedom 4-1 at the Orange Bowl.

1991-Claudio Reyna scores a goal and assists on another as Virginia defeats Yale 2-0 in an NCAA quarterfinal in Charlottesville, Va.

1995-Jamie Swanner's 31 saves help the St. Louis Ambush extend its winning streak to six and snap the Milwaukee Wave's five-game winning streak, 21-13 n front of 7,441 fans in St. Louis.

1996-Paulo Wanchope and Wilemer Lopez score as Costa Rica defeats the United States 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier in San Jose, Costa Rica. Cobi Jones scores for the U.S.

2000-Victor Nogueira makes 27 saves in the Milwaukee Wave's 9-8 win over the Wichita Wings at the Bradley Center.

2000-Mauro Biello and Giuliano Oliviero each score  their 500th career points in a 22-20 Toronto Thunderhawks  win over the Kansas City Attack at the Hershey Center.

2006-Casey Nogueira and Heather O'Reilly each score in the final seven minutes to help lead the North Carolina Tar Heels to a 2-0 win over UCLA in the Semifinals of the NCAA Women's College Cup at SAS Soccer Park.

2007- David Beckham sets up three Los Angeles Galaxy goals, and scores the last goal on a penalty kick in a 4-1 win over Wellington Phoenix. 

2007- Greg Howes scores four two-point goals and assists on a fifth as the Milwaukee Wave defeat Monterrey La Raza 16-10  at Arena Monterrey.

2008- Sydney Leroux scores twice to lead  the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team to a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over England to reach the semifinals of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup .

2012- Goals by Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe give the United States Women's National Team a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

2012- Landon Donovan scores the winning goal on a penalty kick as the Los Angeles Galaxy defeat the Houston Dynamo 3-1 in MLS Cup before a sellout crowd of 30,510 at the Home Depot Center.
