 August 29 :

1971-The New Cosmos end their first season at Yankee Stadium with a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Chiefs.

1972-Malaysia defeats the United States 3-0 in Group 1 of the Olympic Soccer Tournament in Ingolstadt, West Germany.

1972-The United States and Canada play to a 2-2 draw in a World Cup qualifier at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.

1997-Ziad Allen scores four goals, including the game winner in the Houston Hotshots 6-4 win over the Washington Warthogs.

1998-Nancy Lay and Sandra Hunt make their debuts as the first female head referees in MLS history.

2007- The Los Angeles Galaxy fall 4-3 on penalty kicks to Pachuca in the SuperLiga final at Home Depot Center. Chris Klein scores a last minute goal to tie the game at 1-1 in regulation and force overtime.

2008-Fabian Espindola scores both goals as Real Salt Lake shuts out the shorthanded Colorado Rapids 2-0 in front of 15,257 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

2009- David Beckham banks a shot off the far post in the 80th minute to deliver the LA Galaxy a 1-0 win over Chivas USA in front of a sellout crowd of 27,000 at the Home Depot Center.

2012- Dwayne De Rosario scores his 100th career MLS goal to give DC United a lead they could not hold on to, as the New York Red Bulls Wilman Conde scored in the 88th minute to lift the visitors into a 2-2 draw at RFK Stadium.

2014- The Houston Dynamo snap their team-record seven-game road losing streak with a 3-1 weather-delayed win over Sporting Kansas City.

2015- Christen Press has a goal and an assist as the Chicago Red Stars end  a six game winless streak, defeating the Western New York Flash 2-0 at Sahlen's Stadium  .

2015- Stefano Pinho scores three goals, while fellow Brazilians Marlon Freitas and PC tally two apiece as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers rout the Indy Eleven 7-1 at Lockhart Stadium.
