1916-The United States falls 3-0 to A.I.K. Djugardens in Stockholm.

1930-Fall River S.C. earns the first win of their European tour, 3-1 over an Austrian selection in Vienna.

1930-Hungaria F.C. closes out its eight-game U.S. tour with a 2-0 win over the New York All-Stars at the Polo Grounds, ending their trip with a perfect 8-0 record.

1966- Cleveland, Detroit and Houston are added to the North American Soccer League, joining charter members Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington D.C.

1972-Wladimir Kizlov scores two goals as Dynamo Moscow blanks the Atlanta Chiefs 3-0 in Atlanta Stadium.

1975-The Tampa Bay Rowdies become the ninth different champion in the North American Soccer League's history when they defeat the Portland Timbers 2-0 on goals by Arsene Auguste and Clyde Best at Spartan Stadium.

1975-The American Soccer League says Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego are being considered for expansion franchises.

1975-Mexico routs the United States 8-0 in an Olympic qualifier in Toluca.

1980-Giorgio Chinaglia scores his league record 32nd goal of the season in the New York Cosmos 5-0 win over the Rochester Lancers at Giants Stadium.

1981-Thompson Usian and Gordon Hill score two goals each as the Le Manic de Montreal defeat the Los Angeles Aztecs 5-3 in their playoff opener in front of 46,682 at Olympic Stadium.

1996-Nebo Bandovic scores four goals and adds two assists in the Houston Hotshots 8-3 win over the Anaheim Splash.

2006-16-year-old Jozy Altidore makes his professional debut with the New York Red Bulls in a 3-1 US Open Cup quarterfinal loss to DC United.

2006- The LA Galaxy beat the Colorado Rapids on a pair of Landon Donovan goals in extra time to win their U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal 3-1.

2008-The Houston Dynamo's seven-game unbeaten streak ends with a 3-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls.

2011- Defender Eric Brunner scores to give the Portland Timbers a 1-0 win over Chivas USA at sold out Jeld-Wen Field.

2012-Real Salt Lake is outshot 13-6 but gets two clutch saves from goalkeeper Nick Rimando to hold the Philadelphia Union to a scoreless draw at PPL Park.

2013-Midfielder Allie Long scores the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute as Portland Thorns FC erases a two-goal deficit for a 3-2 overtime win against FC Kansas City in a National Women’s Soccer League playoff semifinal match before 4,016 fans at Shawnee Mission District Stadium.

2013-Carli Lloyd scores both goals leading the Western New York Flash to a 2-0 win over Sky Blue FC in front of 7,316 at Sahlen's Stadium, sending the Flash to their fourth straight championship game in as many leagues.

2013- Marco Di Vaio scores twice, and Felipe Martins has a goal and two assists, as the Montreal Impact steamroll the Houston Dynamo 5-0 and roar to the top of the MLS East at Stade Saputo.

2013- Brian Shriver registers his NASL-leading 12th goal of the year to lift the Carolina RailHawks to a 1-0 win over Minnesota United in front of 5,201 at WakeMed Soccer Park.

2014- Obafemi Martins has two goals and an assist to lead Seattle Sounders FC past the Portland Timbers 4-2  and back to the top of the MLS West standings at sold-out Providence Park.

2014- Defender Lance Laing has a goal and an assist to lead FC Edmonton to a 2-1 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in an important NASL Fall Season match at Clarke Stadium.

2014- Megan Rapinoe scores a late goal to give Seattle Reign FC a 2-1 win over the Washington Spirit in an NWSL Semifinal at Memorial Stadium.

2016-US Soccer suspends goalkeeper Hope Solo for six months "for conduct that is counter to the organization’s principles," and ends her contract with the federation.

2016- Sebastian Giovinco sets up both goals as Toronto FC edges Orlando City SC 2-1  at Camping World Stadium.
