1971-With a 1-1 tie against Bangu of Brazil, the Rochester Lancers capture the NASL International Cup, and their second straight Northern Division title.

1980- The Major Indoor Soccer League awards an expansion franchise to the Chicago Horizon for 1980-81.

1985-The United States Women's National team plays its first international, a 1-0 loss to Italy in Jesolo, Italy.

1995-Preki scores seven goals and adds two assists for nine points as the San Jose Grizzlies lose to the Portland Pride 11-10.

1999-Columbus Crew Striker Stern John nets his MLS record fifth career regular season hat trick in a 4-2 win over the MetroStars at Giants Stadium.

2001-Cindy Parlow scores two goals, including the Golden Goal game winner, to lift the Atlanta Beat to a 3-2 semifinal win over the Philadelphia Charge.

2007- Jozy Altidore and Juan Pablo Angel each score twice -- the latter breaking a tie with a spectacular goal in the 88th minute -- to lift the New York Red Bulls to a 5-4 win over David Beckham and the LA Galaxy in front of a Red Bulls record crowd of 66,237 at Giants Stadium.

2008-The United States WNT reaches the gold medal match of the Beijing Olympics with a 4-2 semifinal win over Japan at Workers Stadium in Beijing. Angela Hucles paces the comeback win with a brace.

2008-The LA Galaxy name Bruce Arena Head Coach and General Manager.

2008-Juan Pablo Angel scores twice to lead the New York Red Bulls to a 4-1 win over DC United at Giants Stadium.

2010-Substitute Calen Carr score the clincher as the Chicago Fire edge the New England Revolution 2-1 at Toyota Park.

2012- Fredy Montero comes off the bench to start Seattle Sounders FC on their way to a 2-0 victory over Cascadia Cup rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC in front of 55,718 at Century Link Field.

2013-The Washington Spirit conclude its inaugural NWSL season with three-match unbeaten streak, closing with a 1-1 draw against playoff-bound Sky Blue FC before 4,241 at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

2013- Chris Wondolowski heads in the game winner in the 55th minute, giving the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City at Buck Shaw Stadium

2014- A late goal by Tom Heinemann lifts the Ottawa Fury to a 1-1 draw with the San Antonio Scorpions in front of 4,227 at TD Place.

2016-Ben Speas has a goal and an assist as Minnesota United end a four-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies at NSC Stadium.

2016-Christine Nairn scores two goals to lead the Washington Spirit to a 2-1 win over the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium.
