1974-Mike Renshaw matches his regular season goal scoring output with a pair of goals in a Dallas Tornado 3-0 playoff win over the San Jose Earthquakes at Texas Stadium.

1977-A North American Soccer League record crowd of 77,691 pack Giants Stadium to watch the New York Cosmos rout the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers 8-2 in the opening game of the Eastern Division championship series.  The attendance is not the only record broken. The Cosmos’ eight goals and Giorgio Chinaglia’s hat trick and seven total points also are NASL playoff firsts.

1978-An Atlanta-based group announces it has purchased the Caribous of Colorado and will move them to the Georgia capital for the 1979 NASL season, where they will be named the Chiefs.

1978-Alan Willey sets two NASL playoff records, scoring five goals (for ten points), as the Minnesota Kicks rout the New York Cosmos 9-2 at Metropolitan Stadium.

1979-The American Soccer League, which had planned to stage its championship game at Giants Stadium, announced it will instead be played at Franklin County Stadium in Columbus. The switch was made when it became apparent neither the New York Apollo nor New Jersey Americans would be involved in the playoffs.

1979-David Robb scores the overtime game winner to give the Philadelphia Fury a 2-1 win over the Houston Hurricane in their first-round NASL playoff game before a sparse crowd of 3,331 at Veterans Stadium.

1998-The Columbus Crew breaks ground on its 22,000 seat soccer-specific stadium, the first in MLS.

1999-Tatu scores four goals and assists on five more as the Dallas Sidekicks down Mexico 14-5 in a WISL game.

2004-The U.S. Women's National Team defeats Brazil 2-0 at Kaftanzoglio Stadium in Thessalonika, Greece to guarantee passage into the quarterfinals of the Olympic soccer tournament, but lose forward Abby Wambach for one game after she collects her second yellow card of the competition.

2005-Jason Kreis connects in the 72nd minute of Real Salt Lake’s 4-2 home loss to the Kansas City Wizards in Salt Lake City, becoming the first MLS player to reach 100 career goals.

2006-The Chicago Fire use a second-string lineup to defeat the Kansas City Wizards 2-0 at Toyota Park, giving them a berth in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.

2008-After four World Cups and a lengthy career in Europe, U.S. international goalkeeper Kasey Keller signs to play in MLS with the expansion Seattle Sounders FC in his home state of Washington.

2008-The Los Angeles Galaxy blow an early lead but get a late goal from substitute Alan Gordon to salvage a 2-2 SuperClasico draw with Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center.

2010-David Ferreira has a goal and an assist to lead FC Dallas past DC United 3-1 in front of 12,474 at RFK Stadium, extending FCD's unbeaten streak to ten games.

2010-Bay Area FC Gold Pride extends its unbeaten streak to eight games with its third straight 0-0 contest, this time against the Washington Freedom in front of 3,328 at Pioneer Stadium.

2011- Caroline Seger and Marta each score as the Western New York Flash clinches first place in the WPS regular season standings with a 2-0 win over the Atlanta Beat at Sahlen’s Stadium

2011-Adam Moffatt's unassisted 35-yarder starts the Houston Dynamo on their way to a 2-1 win over the Portland Timbers at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

2013- Jozy Altidore notches his second career hat trick and becomes the first U.S. player to score a goal in five straight games, helping the Americans to a 4-2 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

2013- Olympic gold-medal scoring hero Oribe Peralta scores twice in the opening half to lead Mexico to a 4-1 win over Ivory Coast in an international friendly at MetLife Stadium.

2015- The San Jose Earthquakes snap a six-game winless streak with a lackluster 1-0 win over Western Conference rivals the Colorado Rapids on a goal by defender Clarence Goodson at Avaya Stadium.

2016- Indy Eleven maintain its hold on first place in the NASL Fall Season standings with a 2-1 win over Rayo OKC at Carroll Stadium, improving its home streaks to eight consecutive wins and 13 successive games unbeaten.

2016- Seattle Sounders FC gets early goals from Nicolas Lodeiro and Jordan Morris, and holds on for a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake at CenturyLink Field.
