1962-America of Brazil and Dukla Prague play to a 1-1 draw in front of 15,282 at Soldier Field in the first game of the International Soccer League's Challenge Cup.

1964-Organizers announce the formation of the six-team Mid-America Soccer League with two teams from Chicago and once each from Detroit, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Pittsburgh, with a round-robin schedule slated to start Sept. 26.

1982-Jeff Bourne scores three goals as the Oklahoma City Slickers rout the man-down Nashville Diamonds 9-0 in an American Soccer League game.

1982-Ade Coker's overtime goal gives the San Diego Sockers a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Drillers.

1997-Ziad Allen has three goals and an assist, and Paul Dougherty has two goals, including the game winner, to lead the Houston Hotshots to an 8-4 win over the Washington Warthogs.

 1998-Tatu makes his head coaching debut as the Dallas Sidekicks lose in their WISL debut to the Sacramento Knights.

2009-FC Barcelona and Chivas de Guadalajara play to a 1-1 draw at Candlestick Park.

2009-The LA Galaxy extend their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution before a David Beckham-boosted crowd of 26,623 at Gillette Stadium.

2009-Abby Wambach has two goals and an assist to lead the Washington Freedom past Sky Blue FC 3-1, and into third place in the WPS final regular season standings, at the Maryland Soccerplex.

2010-Holmfridur Magnusdottir scores twice as the Philadelphia Independence play to a 2-2 tie with the Boston Breakers at Farrell Stadium in West Chester, Pa.

2012- Cristiano Ronaldo scores two goals and Kaka sets up three as Real Madrid trounces AC Milan 5-1 in a World Football Challenge match in front of a Yankee Stadium record crowd of 49,474.

2010-Rookie Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson registers seven saves, five in the second half, to hold the New York Red Bulls off the scoreboard and protect a 0-0 tie in front 21, 868, the largest crowd ever at Toyota Park.

2012-Sporting Kansas City defeat Seattle Sounders FC 4-3 in penalties after a 1-1 regulation draw to win the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

2014-Lindsey Horan scores in the 82nd minute to give the United States a 1-0 victory over Brazil at the U-20 Women's World Cup.

2014-The San Jose Earthquakes score on their first two shots of the game and hold on for a 2-2 draw with the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center.

2015- Kei Kamara widens his lead in the MLS Golden Boot race with a brace to lead Columbus Crew SC to a 2-1 comeback win over the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

2015- Maicon Santos scores two goals and assists on the other as the Tampa Bay Rowdies hold off their cross-state rivals the Jacksonville Armada FC at Al Lang Stadium.

2015- FC Kansas City scraps back into playoff contention with a 4-0 win over the Western NY Flash on goals from Leigh Ann Robinson, Yael Averbuch, Heather O’Reilly and Jen Buczkowski at sold out Swope Soccer Village.

2016-The New York Red Bulls complete a season sweep of their Hudson River rivals New York City FC with a 2-0 win at Red Bull Arena.
