1963-Geoff Hurst scores the only goal as West Ham United defeat Gornik of Poland 1-0 in the second game of their two game total goal series to capture the International Soccer League Championship in front of a crowd of 8,538 who disrupted the game for nearly 30 minutes after a pair of Gornik goals were turned back.

1965-Polonia Bytum wins the International Soccer League championship with a 2-1 victory of the New York Americans in the second game of their two game series at Downing Stadium in New York.

1971-A late goal by Felix "The Cat" Correira gives the Toronto Metros a 1-0 win over Bangu at Varsity Stadium, the Brazilians' first loss against NASL opposition as part of the league's International Cup.

1981-The American Soccer League terminates the New England Sharks franchise, with each of its remaining ten games registered as a 1-0 loss.

1981-The Major Indoor Soccer League announces the Chicago Horizon franchise has been revoked after team owner Robert Shwermer fails to find a buyer for the club.

1981-The Seattle Sounder's Kevin Bond scores both goals in a 2-0 win over the visiting Calgary Boomers, one of them a penalty kick, his NASL record 10th of the season

1982-Juli Veee scores a goal and sets up three others as the San Diego Sockers beat the Portland Timbers 5-3 at Jack Murphy Stadium.

1999-Major League Soccer names former NFL executive Don Garber as its new commissioner.

2006-ESPN and Major League Soccer announce a comprehensive multimedia agreement effective 2007 through 2014. Although specific figures are not announced, ESPN becomes the first network to pay for rights to MLS games. 

2010-Despite defeating the Puerto Rico Islanders 2-1, the LA Galaxy are eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League 5-3 on aggregate.

2010-Abby Wambach does all the damage as the Washington Freedom defeat the Philadelphia Independence 2-0 at the Maryland SoccerPlex to end a five-game losing streak and ten-game winless streak.

2012-The Colorado Rapids snap a six-game losing streak by knocking off Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Real Salt Lake 1-0 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

2012-AC Milan defeats Honduran side CD Olimpia 3-1 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. for the second exhibition win on their U.S. summer tour.

2012-Forest City London claims the PDL Championship as Jordan Ayris scores a second-half goal to lift his side to a 2-1 victory against the Carolina Dynamo at Macpherson Stadium in Greensboro, NC.

2013-FC Kansas City becomes the first team in the National Women’s Soccer League to clinch a playoff spot, defeating the Portland Thorns 3-2 in front of the largest crowd of the season, 17,619 at JELD-WEN Field

2014-Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard score second-half goals to lead Manchester United to a 3-1 come-from-behind-win over Premier League rival Liverpool to capture the Guinness International Champions Cup in front of 51,014 fans at Sun Life Stadium.
