1978-Trevor Francis scores twice to lead the Detroit Express to their sixth straight victory, 4-2 over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at the Silverdome.
1978-Los Angeles Macabee win their fourth U.S. Open Cup title, defeating Vasco da Gama of Bridgeport, Conn. 2-0 at Giants Stadium.

1980- Vladislav Bogicevic scores with 58 seconds remaining to give the New York Cosmos a 1-1 draw with River Plate at Giants Stadium.
1980-Steve Moyers scores two goals as the California Surf defeat the Philadelphia Fury 3-1 at Anaheim Stadium.
1983-Club America defeats the El Salvador National Team 1-0 in the championship game of the Nation's Cup Tournament at the LA Coliseum. Guatemala edges South Korea 3-2 in overtime of the third place game.
1990-East Germany defeats Club America 2-1 before 9,100 fans at Spartan Stadium in San Jose.
1993- Mark Thomas scores four goals and Rocky Villa adds three in a wild 12-10 Sacramento Knights win over the Arizona Sandsharks. Wes Wade scores three goals for Arizona.
1997-The Los Angeles Galaxy defeats 1996 Mexican League winter champions Santos Laguna 4-1 at the Rose Bowl in the opening round of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
2004- Mateja Kezman nets his third goal in two games, Didier Drogba scores in his debut and Joe Cole adds a goal for Chelsea in a 3-0 Champions World romp over AS Roma in front of 25,317 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.
2005- The MLS All-Stars roll past Fulham F.C. of the English Premiership 4-1 in front of a sellout crowd of 23,309 at Columbus Crew Stadium. FC Dallas midfielder Ronnie O'Brien deflected Clint Dempsey's shot into the net for the winner, and Jeff Cunningham came off the bench for two late tallies.
2006-Tasha Kai scores her fifth goal in eight games as the U.S. Women's National Team defeats Canada 2-0 in front of 5,292 at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, NC.
2008- The U.S. Men's Olympic Team plays Ivory Coast to a scoreless draw in the ING Cup at Hong Kong Stadium.
2008-Defensive midfielder Shalrie Joseph scores the only goal of the game in the 30th minute, and goalkeeper Matt Reis earns his tournament-best third SuperLiga shutout as the New England Revolution advance to the SuperLiga final by defeating Atlante of Mexico 1-0 at Gillette Stadium.
2008- Chris Rolfe and Tomasz Frankowski score to lead the Chicago Fire to a 2-0 win over Everton FC at Toyota Park.
2009-Veteran defender Christie Rampone is named first-year WPS team Sky Blue FC's third coach of the season after head coach Kelly Lindsey resigns.
2009-The New York Red Bulls tie W Connection 2-2 in a CONCACAF Champions League preliminary match in Marabella, Trinidad & Tobago.
2010- The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team earned the Milk Cup with a 3-0 win over tournament host Northern Ireland at the Showgrounds in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.
2011-The New York Red Bulls open the Emirates Cup with a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at Emirates Stadium. Joel Lindpere scores the only goal, in the 27th minute.
2011- Landon Donovan scores two goals and sets up another in a 4-0 romp over Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Empire Field that extends the LA Galaxy’s unbeaten streak to 14 games.
2011- Nani and Michael Owen each score as Manchester United wins the fifth straight game of their North American tour, 2-1 over FC Barcelona in a World Football Challenge match that drew a Washington-area soccer record crowd of 81,807 to FedEx Field.
2013-Hunt Sports Group sells operating rights to the Columbus Crew to Precourt Sports Ventures, LLC, a San Francisco-based subsidiary of a venture management fund.
2013- Just two days after scoring the game winner for the United States in the Gold Cup final against Panama, Brek Shea scores for Stoke City in a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park.
2014-Liverpool rallies to a 2-2 tie against Manchester City, then prevails 3-1 in penalty kicks to win their Guinness International Champions Cup match at Yankee Stadium.
2014-The Seattle Reign clinch the NWSL Shield, for the best regular-season record, with a 4-1 victory over the Houston Dash. Kim little leads the way with two goals.
